Douglas Laboratories Niacinamide is a dietary supplement providing dietary niacin from niacinamide. Niacin occurs as two active coenzymes, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and NAD phosphate (NADP). NAD enzymes are involved in reactions that release energy from protein, fat and carbohydrate. NADP enzymes function in pathways of compounds like fatty acids and steroid hormones. Niacin is involved in normal blood cholesterol and lipoprotein levels. Niacinamide allows dietary niacin to be obtained in a generally well tolerated form without the association of the "flushing" reaction.
